Relaunch of the Workhorse: From 10 to TEN

Lighter and more modern: Haenel redesigns its entry-level bolt-action rifle / Receiver machined from solid billet

News from C.G. Haenel in Suhl: the Jaeger 10 bolt-action rifle becomes the Jaeger TEN – following comprehensive reengineering, it now represents the brand’s new entry-level model. Since 2010, the Jaeger 10 has sold in the tens of thousands worldwide and has been one of the Suhl manufacturer’s high-volume success stories.

Who typically chooses this hunting rifle? Most often, true practical hunters. Designed for everyday use and all weather conditions, the rifle is regarded as a rugged workhorse for field and forest, especially since the introduction of the synthetic stock. At the same time, newcomers to hunting appreciate its straightforward, safe handling at an attractive price point. This core mission has now been further refined in the updated model.

The primary optimization focuses on the action: the aluminum receiver is now fully machined from solid billet and comes with an integrated Picatinny rail. This reduces weight by nearly 300 grams and creates a more robust mounting platform (on the Jaeger 10, the rail was still screwed on). It also allows for more consistent and repeatable optic mounting.

Speaking of optics: the open sights – rear sight and front sight – have been discontinued in favor of compatibility with the retrofittable i-Sight system. The 18 mm barrel with a length of 520 mm therefore comes “clean” from the factory. This reflects the growing use of suppressors: the M15x1 muzzle thread is standard, and without a front sight it is also suitable for over-barrel suppressors such as the HAENEL JGR suppressor.

Operation and handling remain unchanged. The two-position safety acts on the trigger sear, and the rifle can be opened while on safe. A 4+1 detachable magazine provides ample capacity. The bolt operation of the cylindrical action remains exemplary: cycling the rifle continues to be a pleasure, currently available in .30-06 Springfield and .308 Winchester.
