Lots of long-range performance for the money:
Haenel presents the new LR/ONE precision rifle

New bolt action rifle in .308 Win.: German manufacturer lowers the entry threshold for precision rifles by almost half

Precision rifles to a professional specification are usually large, heavy and often very expensive as well as oversized for many purposes. In contrast, affordable precision rifles are often a clone of hunting rifles that were not originally developed for this requirement profile. Haenel’s new LR/ONE however takes a different approach in the .308 calibre, concentrating on its proven precision-rifle-expertise through all stages of its design and manufacture – without compromise.

New price threshold for precision rifles

C.G. Haenel’s precision rifles have been used by the German police force and other special units for many years as RS or HLR, and all are consistently reliable at long range. The current basic professional version, the HLR Basic, considering its price, design and features can still be classed as a specialist tool. With the new LR/ONE the company has thus almost halved the previous price. The rifle is based entirely on the company’s new bolt-action chassis, which is less bulky and combines standard interfaces from the AR world.

Technically solid foundation

Suhl’s entry-level precision rifle comes complete with a steel bolt action, a precise, cold-forged 20 mm barrel complete with 15×1 muzzle thread and an excellent direct trigger. For the rest of the equipment, the manufacturer combines innovative in-house developments with standard accessories. The new extendable shoulder stock (+/- 8 cm) was developed in consultation with special force units and is based on the new shoulder stock of the Haenel CR308/CR223. It allows the height of the cheek and shoulder piece to be adjusted without any tools, but is also designed to prevent accidental adjustment.

Different interfaces

Bolt action repeaters are state of the art as precision rifles – that’s set in stone. The LR/ONE also uses the rotating bolt with three massive locking lugs and has successfully passed the overpressure firing test up to 8,000 bar. The classic bolt action combines uncomplicated high precision with safe operation and fast reloading. Safety is ensured by the classic 3-position safety mechanism on the action, which releases the firing pin. The detachable magazine holds five .308 Win. bullets (+ 1 in the chamber), a calibre which is already renowned for its good balance between range, penetration and recoil. In the LR/ONE, the calibre is well suited for long-range shots up to around 800 meters.
